Fished the last two days with Scott and worked hard for the fish we landed with a tough bite both days. We didn't fish the Salmon River yesterday but talking to people the bite seemed to be a little better on the mid to lower Salmon than on the Sandys. There was lots of melting snow and ice that dropped the water temps a few degrees and shut them down for us in the afternoon.

Here are some of the pix from my last few outings. The fishing has been hit and miss lately. Yesterday was warm and rainy and everyone I talked to that fished did well. Today was another story, we had temps in the low 20s and a wind chill of 9. The river went up to 1250cfs last night and the bite was tough but we managed to scratch out a few nice fish

December 21st Steelhead

Did a half day trip with Dave from Maryland and started the day with a first cast hookup and ended the day with a fish on the last cast. Thats the way to start and finish a day! Great half day overall with plenty of hookups. The Salmon River is up a bit running at 1800cfs and it rained on us all day so it doesn't look like it will be dropping in the next few days.

December 12-14 Steelheading

I was out Monday through Wednesday fishing with Will from Connecticut. The first day we hit the Sandys which were low, clear, and very cold in the am. The bight was tough until about noon when the water temp went up slighly and the fish turned on. Tuesday was a really tough day on the Salmon River, we ended up landing about five fish but we worked very hard for them. Wednesday was the best day, the Salmon River fished well from morning till evening. We didn't get all the pix of our fish since we were doing mostly filming with our GoPro cameras but still managed to get most of them. Great three days overall!

December 5-6 Steelhead, Rainbows, and Brown Trout

We hit the local waters monday and headed westward tuesday. Monday we caught some bright chrome, mean stealhead and lost some pigs too! We also managed to land a rainbow and a big drop back female brown. Tuesday caught lots of rainbows and some nice browns, all beautiful fish in high water conditions. Now its time for some R & R! Heading down to Connecticut for the next four days to hang out with the family!

December 3-4th Steelhead

Fished the last two days with another group from International Anglers out of Pittsburgh PA. Yesterday we had very cold water in the morning and a slow bite throughout the day but worked hard and landed some nice fish including one monster male steelhead 21 lbs!! It was Herman's first steelhead he has ever caught and the biggest one he will ever catch! Talk about beginners luck! Today was a better bite and we landed lots of fish although I lost some of the pix on the camera. Great trip once again with the guys from Pittsburgh!

Fished with Steve and Dick today and had some tough conditions to work with. The water was cold high and muddy and the bite was a bit tough but we worked hard and scratched out some nice fish

Fished with Chad and Ken, two high school friends, out west towards Rochester. The water was up a little and a bit off color, perfect! The fishing was perfect too, lots of non stop action all day long with very hungry aggressive trout! Awesome day off fishing!

Had a great day of fishing today Ken Hubbard on the Sandys. The water was a little muddy this morning but it cleared as the day went on and the fishing was hot. The fish were extremely violent because of how fresh they were and we lost some really nice steelhead. Great day overall!

Fished the last two days with a group put together by International Anglers out of Pittsburgh PA. Both days were productive, I don't have all the pix because there were two other guides helping out, but there were plenty of fish caught by all!

Fished with Joe and Champ from Philadelphia PA the last two days. Both days the bite was on all day steadily. Very few periods without bites. Great Trip!

I had a great three days with John and Scott from Maryland on the Salmon River. We had lots of action all three days and landed some awesome tout! We also got some much needed rain Tuesday night finally!

We fished the Middle Salmon River today to try and avoid the crowds on the upper river. We had a really good day with lots of hookups all day on mostly steelhead. We did manage to land one brown and had a few more hooked up.

Fished the Upper Salmon River in the morning and experienced a blinding snowstorm but when the snow cleared the angling pressure increased. We decided to head down river to avoid the crowds and did well getting many hookups. Although we didn't get many of them to the net we hooked some great fish!

Fished with Earl, Dave, and Keith from Houston Texas again today and had a tough morning but it really picked up in the afternoon and we pulled off a good day in the end.

On the Salmon again today and managed to pull off a GREAT day of steelhead fishing in spite of considerable pressure. Still waiting on some rainfall to open up other fisheries and raise the Salmon River a little more.

The Upper Salmon River fished good again today in low water and with fewer crowds. We didn't get out till 10am but still managed to land some great trout.

Had a little tougher day today on the river, not because we couldn't hook them but because we couldn't get them to the net. Almost all the steelhead we hooked today beat us up pretty good. We did manage to land some nice browns though.

More good fishing in low water on the Salmon River. Definitely having to work for our fish but good varieties of fish everyday has been the norm lately. Lots of crowds on the upper Salmon River so we decided to fish down lower today and it payed off.

Fished a half a day on the mid Salmon River and found some fresh browns and steelhead moving through. The fish seemed to be holding well in the pocket water and the river is very wadeable at 335cfs.

Fished the upper Salmon River again today and the water dropped overnight to 335cfs which may have actually improved the bite for us as we landed lots of beautiful trout throughout the day.

Two great days of fishing with Hank and Doug. Saturday the water was low, clear, and busy on Sandy Creek but we manage to get away from people and found some nice fish. Today we hit the upper Salmon River and got into a good variety of fish and had lots of action.

Good day of fishing on the upper Salmon River with another good mixed bag of fish. We caught some steelies, kings, coho, and brown trout. The river is still up a bit at 1000 cfs until tonight and then I would assume they would drop it after not receiving much rain but we'll have to wait and see.

Had a great day today fishing for steelies with Chris and Chris! Lots of really fresh fish moving in and extremely hot fish when you hook into them! Did manage to land one nice brown as well.

Fishing for the Kings was good last week but winding down but the steelhead are really starting to show up in big numbers! We are seeing some browns but not enough to key in on them yet.

Great day again on the Salmon River catching lots of big Kings! Nonstop action throughout the day as a constant movement of Kings pushed through. One really nice steelhead was landed as well.

Had a great day on the Salmon River today with Brent and Justin from North Carolina. We caught lots of Kings throughout the day and some really nice ones! Didn't see as many trout moving through as we did yesterday but still had a great day!

Fished the past couple of days on the Salmon River and the runs are very impressive, both in quantity and quality of fish! Lots of kings are moving through non stop with a good mix of cohos, steelhead, and an occasional brown trout. Good to be back in NY after a great season in AK!

The season is winding down now and today is the last day of guests here in Alaska. The fishing has been really good for the past couple weeks and we've been experiencing some great weather for this late in the season. Its been another great season at the Royal Coachman and time for some NY Salmon, Steelhead, and Brown Trout!

Only two more weeks left to go here in AK then I'll be back in NY fishing Steelhead, Browns, and Lake Ontario style Salmon. Big things are still happening here though as you can see. This past couple weeks has produced some really nice fish! The first pic is a 32" Rainbow followed by a 30" and then a 29 1/2", gotta love this time of year!

Fishing has been really good in almost all of our fisheries! Some of our fisheries are just coming to and end as the sockeye finish spawning but other fisheries are just getting started. The Silver Salmon fishing has been great, as we are catching fish fresh out of the ocean with sea lice still attached and they are red hot fish! Its definitely starting to feel like fall with the beautiful fall foliage, the days are getting shorter and temperatures colder.

The Silver run has been down a little this year but we are still getting plenty of them. Lots of eggs dropping everywhere which = lots of nice fish eating them and being caught! All the rivers are in full spawn mode now which really opens up a lot more fisheries for Rainbows, Char, and Dollies. We are also starting to catch a lot of really big Char as you can see in the photos! These things are brutal fighters and take you into the backing multiple times during the fight! Lots of fun!

We finished up with our last week of King Salmon and are now focusing on the fresh Silvers making their way inland from Bristol Bay. This past week was hit and miss for the silvers but it is the first week of the run so the numbers should increase daily. The Rainbow, Dolly, and Char fishing has been great this past week and should only continue to get better from here on out.

The Chum spawn is at its peak and the Sockeye Salmon are just starting to dig their reds in some of our fisheries. Definitely something we look forward as this is the start of the best Rainbow, Char, Dolly Varden fishing of the season. This is going to be our last week of King Season and the start of the Silver run. Amazing how fast everything changes here!

Fishing has been good this week for most species we are targeting. The Lake Trout bite is winding down and the Char fishing was a little tougher this week but the Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout fishing was great this week. We didn't catch many big bows but we did get some good numbers and were able to catch some skating a mouse on the surface. We did fish for King Salmon a little but our better fisheries were high and muddy due to last weeks rain but this week should be great as the rivers clear and drop.

Over the last two weeks in Alaska, lots of changes are occurring in our river and lake systems. The King, Chum, and Sockeye salmon runs are in full swing and we have already seen some chum and sockeye spawning in some rivers! The Northern Pike fishing is still great but starting to slow a little. We have caught a couple of big Shefish, which are quit rare for us and are a great fighting fish. Lakers are still feeding heavy on salmon smolt. The char and rainbow fishing has slowed down a little this week in some of the systems but he dolly varden fishing is just starting to heat up.

We have been experiencing beautiful weather lately and great fishing! The Rainbow fishing has been getting hot with lots of fish coming on a skated mouse, dry droppers and also streamers. The Lake Trout and Northern Pike fishing is still amazing right now and some the Lakers are actually being caught skating mice as well! Won't be long before we start seeing the first big pushes of Chum, Sockeye, and King Salmon.

We are in the middle of our first week of guests here at the Coachman and the fishing has been really good for giant Northern Pike on mouse patterns and Dahlberg Divers, Lake Trout on streamers, and Arctic Char. The Rainbow Trout fishing is off to a little bit of a slow start but that is also due to the low ceiling preventing us from flying to some of our best spots for bows. May 5-6th drop-back Steelhead on the SR

The past two days were like night and day on the SR. The first day was great and we landed over twenty fish again but the second day was a completely different story. The fish are dropping really fast now and there were definitely much fewer fish in the upper river. It really is amazing how fast things change! We only landed six fish yesterday but the weather was beautiful and we had a great time nonetheless.

Fished the past three days with Brian and Brendan on the Salmon River. We did really well all three days landing over 20 fish a day all three days! The fishing has been on fire lately with a combo of drop backs eating everyhing in site and there is still some fish spawning which means the upper river still has many fish behind females eating eggs in and around gravel.

Fished the last two days with Meta and Wolfgang from Sweden again. We did the upper Salmon below Altmar both days and did well landing 12 yesterday and 6 today in half a day. Today was very cold and windy with snow flurries throughout the day so we decided to end it early and hope for warmer temps tommorrow

Fished the upper Salmon River today with Meta and Wolfgang all the way from Sweden. We fished a little more than half the day and landed 12 fish including one brown trout. The water is now running at 1800cfs in the Salmon River and the bite is really on

Fished the Salmon River and surrounding tribs today and had a good day on the tribs and a great second part of the day on the Salmon River! Lots of hungry fish and the river level dropping were recipes for a great afternoon

Fished the Sandys yesterday morning and did really well in some nasty conditions. We then headed towards the Salmon River and fished some of its tribs and caught some more nice fish. Today was an even better day fishing the tribs again with all the others rivers high and unfishable. We found lots of hungry fish and landed close to 20 fish total today! Really good day!

April 15 Steelhead

Fished the tributaries today due to the high water everywhere else and did well. We landed around 10 fish and had a fun day. Some of the fish are starting to drop back now and are really aggressive which is helping as well. With all the rain coming they are raising the water in the Salmon River to 4200cfs.

April 12 and 13 Steelhead and Browns

Fished the past two days on the Salmon River in high muddy water but did very well considering. We landed lots of fish and the bite was on in spite of the low visibility. The rain hasn't stopped since last night and the rivers are all on the rise. Should make the next few days interesting with all the rivers and tribs high prior to the rain. I just cancelled my trip for tomorrow and we'll see what the water looks like after that.

Fished the Salmon River again today and had another good day. We had muddy water from the snow melt throughout the river but managed to still land 15 fish. Was really warm again today which may raise water levels even more unfortunately.

Fished the Salmon River today and we also hit North Sandy in the afternoon. We did well on the salmon in the morning but when it slowed down in the early afternoon we decided to go hit North Sandy. We had a good day landing around a dozen fish all day. The snow melt is starting to really muddy up all the water with the warm temps, including the entire length of the Salmon River.

A little tougher Saturday with more crowds to work around but still a good day with some beautiful weather! Finally feels like spring is here to stay. April 5th 38 1/4 inch Steelhead

I took my girlfriend fishing this afternoon since this is probably the last time we will be able to steelhead fish together this year with all the upcoming bookings and her schedule. She is always bugging me about getting a really big fish and she did just that today when she hauled in this massive 38 1/4 inch male steelhead!!! Definitely the biggest fish I have seen in a few years! Congrats Makayla on a true trophy!

We fished the Sandys in the morning but they were muddied up from all the snow melt over the last couple days and we only landed one small fish and lost one more there. We then headed bback south towards Pulaski and hit a few more spots on the run and did great landing 14 total fish throughout the rest of the day

Fished the Sandys today and had a great morning landing 8 of our 10 fish by 10:30am. Had lots more hookups too. The afternoon was much tougher but we did manage to scratch two more out to end the day.
