April 26th and 27th Steelhead fishing the Salmon River

We fished with Carl and Lou from Maryland and Kent all the way from California the past two days on the Salmon River. The fishing was a little bit slow but we managed to land seven fish on Monday and four fish Tuesday. We were flyfishing both days and forced to use really light tippet which has been resulting in many more breakoffs than we would usually have. With the water levels so low and clear and with all the pressure it is almost a necessity to go light. Here are some pics from the last two days....notice the first pic is of a nice Atlantic Salmon!

April 17th Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River

Fished with Eddie, John, and Rob again yesterday and it was a tough day all around for us. It was a very, very busy Salmon River today partly due to all the Lake Ontario Brown Trout fishermen getting blown off by strong winds which overcrowded an already crowded river. The low water and fish dropping back early puts 90% of the fish in about 5% of the River, all the large deep holes. I counted 21 fishermen at the Long Bridge Hole yesterday which is more than I have ever seen there in my life. We hooked into about ten fish and only could land 4 but I had an overall great three days with these guys so it was all good in the end! Here are a couple pics from Saturday

April 16th Steelhead Fishing on the Salmon River

Fished again today with Eddie, John, and Rob on the Salmon River. We did awesome this morning until about 1:30 landing 14 fish and then it slowed down to a haul but the morning made the whole day by that point! Another great day of fishing for dropbacks! Here are some pics...

April 15th Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River

Fished today with Rob, John, and Eddie from Massachusetts for dropbacks. We were float fishing with beads and pink powerbait worms and absolutely hammered them today landing over 30 fish and losing I don't know how many! What a day on the Salmon! The fish are really on the feed as they are making their way downstream towards Lake Ontario. Here are some fish pics from today...

Fished again today with Ned Desmond and Scott Faley on the Salmon River for Dropback Steelhead. We started off a little slow in the early morning due in part to the cold temps last night but once the sun started shining on the water the fish woke up and started biting. We ended up doing very well landing 12 fish and losing lots more. Here are some pics from today...
