Guanaja, Honduras at Fly Fish Guanaja

For three weeks in the beginning of February I was in the Bay Islands of Honduras, mostly Guanaja, but I did spend a few days on Roatan. Steve Brown, the owner of Fly Fish Guanaja got married in Roatan and I was invited, it wasn't a tough decision so obviously I went. He's a great friend and the winter has been absolutely brutal in upstate New York. We had an amazing time at the wedding and then hopped in a boat over to Guanaja where I spent the next two and a half weeks. The first day started off with a permit, a small snook, a baby tarpon, and then a bonefish which=super slam all before noon......not a bad way to start off the arrival! I didn't pick up a rod for over a week, spending lots of time in a hammock, paddle boarding, and mostly tagging along on other permit hunting expeditions. The next dat I was on the bow of a panga Greg Baldwin, the manager of the lodge, poled me into a school of four permit. The first cast I made connected and I had my second permit in two days of fishing. Ken Hubbard showed up that afternoon and on his second morning of fishing he had his permit as well. Our girlfriends were along for that final week so we basically took the rest of the week off from fishing and experienced some of the other attractions the island had to offer. It was a perfect vacation and I'm sorry to be back in upstate New York! The weather is looking like its going to warm a little bit and my first steelhead trips since January start this week. I promise you won't have to wait as long for my next post;)
