Late April Salmon River Drop Back Steelhead

I had trips over the weekend until today and did ok. We worked hard but were able to hook into a good number of fish and land some nice drop back steelhead. Its coming down to the end of the run now although there are still some fish up river ready to come down, but with warmer temps on the way I don't think they will stick around too long. Here are a few of the fish pix from the weekend....

April 23-25 Salmon River Steelhead

The past three days have been like fishing in early march with the hail, sleet, rain, snow, wind and cold!! Although it is brutal weather to fish in, I realize that these unseasonably cold temps are the only thing keeping the temperature conscious fish in the river instead of fleeing for Lake Ontario. We ended up doing really well and caught some great, amazingly hot, acrobatic steelhead thanks to the terrible weather we have been having. I never thought I'd be thankful for snow it late April!

April 18-19 Salmon River Steelhead

Fished with Ed from New Jersey the past two days and worked hard to catch what we did but ended up doing well. Still seeing fish spawning but most of them are drop backs at this point, with a few browns hanging around for variety.

April 16-17 Salmon River Steelhead Trip

Awesome two days with LMN on the Salmon River! Lots of drop backs, a few spawners, and some nice browns were landed by all! The cold temps are really saving the season for us, keeping the water temps under 50 degrees! Should last another week or two if we are lucky.
