Late August Big Bows! Royal Coachman Lodge AK

The past week and a half have been great for trophy Alaska rainbow trout fishing. We have been landing lots of fish between 24-29 inches and with girths of about 14 on average up to almost 17 inches! This is a great time to catch a fish of a lifetime. We have also been catching lots of BIG sea lice Silvers near the coast, many on surface poppers which is absolutely an amazing experience! Ther is nothing like a giant Silver Salmon fresh out of the ocean wakeing towards your fly on the surface and explodeing on it! It has been a great week and we expect it to only get better this week. Here are some of the pics from the last weeek and a half...

August at the Royal Coachman Lodge AK

The water levels are as high as they are during the spring runoff which is making fishing our usual spots interesting. We actually are still doing really well but are more limited to certain rivers that aren't too high or too muddy due to all the precipitation. However, we have had a great week of nice weather and hopefully it is here to stay! The Pink Salmon are stacked out in front of the lodge so thick you could catch a fish on almost every cast if you wanted. They are probably one of the most aggressive salmon and will eat almost anything you throw at them. There are also some silvers starting to show up on the local water too. The rainbow fishing is still doing well and the char fishing is on fire right now! Here are some pix from the last couple weeks...

Mid August - Royal Coachman Lodge AK

So the weather is still not cooperating and we are seeing very little sunshine lately. The fishing has been great though in spite of the conditions. The sockeye are just about in full spawn in most of the rivers we are fishing which means big rainbows, char, and dolly varden! Wherever we are finding active spawning beds we are usually finding great fishing right behind them as the trout and char are gobbling the eggs dropping out of the salmon. Here are a few pix from the last couple weeks...
