Mid March Steelies on the Salmon

I was out a few days this week on the river and the fishing has been fair. We are catching a few fish a day and hooking quite a few more, enough to keep it interesting. The temps have been all over the place which makes the fishing a little more inconsistent, hopefully March ends up going out like a lamb and we get some sun and warmth finally! Here are some of the pix from the last few trips, unfortunately didn't get pix of some of the other fish landed....

March 6th Salmon River Steelhead

I recently returned from my annual trip to Fly Fish Guanaja, which was a great escape from the brutal winter we've been enduring. Unfortunately I don't have any pix from Guanaja because of a computer issue that caused me to loose all of my pix. However, it was once again a phenomenal time with great people, in a great location. I didn't do much fishing this trip, mostly I was there to help out and do my best to empty the beer coolers on a daily basis. I finally got out today on the home waters of the Salmon River, fished for only an hour and landed some nice winter steelhead! The sun was shining, the temps were relatively warm at 22 (I said relative) and the fish were biting! Looking forward now to the beginning of spring steelhead season and seeing lots of familiar faces, and hopefully some warmth!

January 5th Salmon River Steelhead

Fished the Salmon River yesterday and did great in the morning until the anchor ice started lifted off the bottom and everything in the mid to lower river shut down. We then headed upriver in the afternoon and found crowds and a tougher bite. Good day overall though.

Late December Steelhead

Had a half day trip on the Salmon River this afternoo as the water was dropping to 500cfs and hit a pretty good bite. The weather has been crazy up here lately with the temps all over the place and some flooding last week. The temps look to be mild for the weekend but next week it looks like its going to dip back down to the teens and single digits. Here are some pix from today and a previous trip last week...

December 10-11 Salmon River Steelhead

We struggled a little bit these two days with extremely cold temps and a tough bite. Still caught a few really nice chromers, some of which we didn't get pix of. We were supposed to fish the 12th as well but we decided to cancel due to an even colder forecast!

Friday December 6th Steelies

Ive had some time off this past week and weekend due to cancellations, reschedulings, and weather but we did make it out on thursday and Friday. I fished with a couple of friends on thursday for a few hours and hit a nice afternoon bite. I didn't take any pix except the one with my new dog, new best friend and fishing buddy Jake! We also did well on friday in the Salmon River with plenty of hookups and some nice fish to the net.

Late November Steelhead, Browns and Rainbows

Its been the same story, the conditions are controlling our destiny on a day to day basis. There have been some extremely cold days this past week that have made fishing super tough. We did have a nice day on Sunday and as a result we had a really good bite from mid morning on.
